We are very proud to announce the birth of our second grandson, Alexander Parker Halverson. Alec arrived on Sunday, November 14th at 11:32PM at Fairview Southdale Hospital. He weighed in at 6 lbs., 3 oz. and is 19" long. Marie had a difficult time with the delivery. She had been having contractions for about a month or more, so she had been taking a medication to halt the contractions. (Marie was "due" in mid-December.) When she and Sharon were at the birthing classes on Saturday, she started spotting. She was admitted that night when her "water" broke. She wasn't dilating past "1" and Marie started getting feverish, so they decided to take Alec via "C-section". The delivery itself went well enough; Alec started very healthy with no complications; but our concerns were with Marie. Apparently, because of the medication she was taking to postpone the contractions, her uterus was not contracting as it should after the delivery and she had lost a lot of blood. There was fear if they could not stop the bleeding that they might have to remove her uterus (a hysterectomy)- pretty scary stuff for a young newlywed mother that really loves kids. With some TLC and extra effort by the nursing staff, Marie made a full recovery by morning.

Marie was discharged by Thursday, but stayed with Alec in the hospital to nurse, etc. Because he's a "premie" (premature), they had to keep him a few extra days to make sure he was eating OK and gaining weight. We just received word that he should be going home on Monday (11-22). Marie had a baby shower on Sunday the 21st.

Spooky!............... We were all watching E.R. on Thanksgiving and the nurse giving birth (except for twins!) was going through almost the exact same delivery conditions as Marie! Too weird!
