April Deana Halverson
If you're aware of our major project occupying much of our time- our 'baby'- the new lake home in Chisago City (see below)- we've been a little remiss in getting some pictures posted of our newest 'babies'......

If you hadn't heard yet, our daughters both gave birth to new babies- both girls- in early April- one day apart!!
April Deana Halverson was born on April 3rd. She ended up with bright red hair (like her Great-Grandma Blasko had). Eva Sophia Jachymowski
Eva Sophia Jachymowski (pronounced 'Ay-va') was born on April 4th. She ended up with a fairly thick head of dark brown hair (like her Great-Grandma Tente, but she's definitely a 'Jachymowski'.) Alec & Brandon
We took these pictures at a recent visit to the Minnesota Zoo (appropriately on Father's Day). The 'boys' are getting big, too. Brandon is 5 now and Alec is 2-1/2.

3/4 View Front View

I thought it was time to condense the web page. The construction photos were getting a little long to load on most browsers, so I thought I'd start over with a fresh page starting in with the finish work. (You can go back to the last page by clicking here.) Here's a couple of reasonably fresh front shots of the house.

We've sold the house (on Royal Oaks) and are scheduled to close on July 29th. In other words, we have to be 'out' of here by then. We are expecting to have enough done at the 'new' place to get an 'occupancy certificate' and move in while we do the last of the finish work. We'll be doing some flooring and wood trim later. We'll be 'living' in the guest bedroom upstairs while the main floor is finished.

I've put the new address and phone numbers 'up top' for your reference. We already have a mailbox installed, so we can get mail at the new place.

Sheet Rock in Progress Electrical Stuff

Here's an earlier picture showing the sheet rock in progress. The other picture shows my electrical panel and the big data cable 'umbilical' with all our phone/data/network/speakers and coax wiring.

Future Fireplace & Entertainment Center View from Dining Room thru Kitchen/Nook to Master BR

All the sheetrock is mounted and the taper is finishing up the seam taping. He is just now starting on the textured ceilings. Primer paint will follow shortly.

Fascia, Soffit & Trim Latest Progress View

Both garage doors are now installed. Our siding contractor (the same guy that did the roof) has started on the fascia and soffit. Siding will be started soon (we're missing the 'J'-channels). I did the vinyl trim around the doors and garage doors. No painting!!

Front View w/ Siding, Fascia, Soffit & Trim 3/4 View

The siding installation is progressing nicely now that the J-channels are delivered. You can see the facia and soffit being installed. The siding is vinyl with a 'Weathered Wood' color. It has kind of a 'streaked' look that resembles weathered cedar siding. We're striving for a 'Cape Cod' or 'saltbox' look. The top of the garage and the dormer peaks will be done in vinyl 'shakes' (white). More 'no' painting!!

We've got A/C! The 'Powder Room'

The heating and A/C is all installed and we've got two 'working' bathrooms. The full bath upstairs is functional and the 1/2 bath (powder room) is currently doing duty for minor dish washing as well.....

Entry Light The Upstairs Hall Sconces

All the electrical fixtures are installed now except for the living room ceiling fan and the dining room chandelier. It may have something to do with the 18 ft. ceilings where they're to be mounted.....

The 'Million Dollar' View The Side Porch

Well, here's the 'Million Dollar View' we were looking for. The snowfence is installed to meet the safety requirements. We haven't had an opportunity to install the deck railing around the screen porch area. You can see by the view of the side porch that the rest of the deck railing is up and looking great. Maintenance-free vinyl again.

The siding is now completely done. Here's some views of the house from several angles. If you look carefully at the back view from the lake, you can see (barely- the 'speck') a Bald Eagle soaring just over the peak of the house.

We're In!! Hardwood Flooring in Back Hallway
Kitchen (looking from the hallway)- Laundry area on the left Nook (desk area ahead to the right) with Ceiling Fan and Light

We're In!! We moved over most of the week and weekend of July 27/28th and then closed on our 'old' house on Monday the 29th. It seems strange not living in Shoreview after 25 years. We're in the 'new' house now, but still have a ways to go to finish the rest of the house. You can see we've got the living room furniture in place and are working on the rest of the house. We've got the hardwood floors installed now in the kitchen, nook and back hallway (tedious!- all 45 deg. angles!!) and will sand and finish them shortly. We found a small wood mill in Wisconsin that custom cut 'character grade' white oak for us (lots of knots and end grain) in 3, 4, and 5" widths for a 'country kitchen', wide-plank look.

The kitchen/nook/hall floors are now finished. We sanded, used an oil-based sealer (which gives it some 'color') and put down three coats of water-based polyurethane. It looks great!

Detailed Street View Garage View from Street

We put down 4x6 timbers to outline the driveway area. We'll be putting concrete down momentarily for a parking area up near the garage and the fron entry sidwalk. After that's down we'll add a fresh layer of trap rock in the driveway and turnaround.

New Gutters Another View of Gutters

Gutters are now installed. Finally, we can properly channel all that rainwater we've been getting.
Concrete Forms for Sidewalk Another View of Concrete Forms

Here's a peek at our forms for the sidewalk and driveway.

Sidewalk & Driveway are now Done! Driveway View
Another Driveway ViewThe sidewalk and concrete driveway are now in. The slot drain and receptacle for the gutter spout are going to be nice this winter. After the crushed trap rock was laid down and leveled with a bobcat, Mark compacted it with his SVX. Those wide tires are good for something else besides corners! It looked like blacktop when it was done. It has since been rinsed to a lovely shade of blue-gray by the rain.

Patio View
Another Patio ViewWe wanted some kind of hard surface for a patio area under the deck, so we put down some 'slate-look' 16" patio stones from Menards (where else!?).

South Retaining Wall
North Retaining WallSome the elevations at the back corners of the house needed a little correction, so we put in some small retaining walls.

Rear View of Screen Porch
Updated 'Million Dollar View'I figured I better finish the vinyl deck railing before it got too cold out (too brittle to work on), so it's all done now. All that's left now is installing the screening material.
Refrigerator & Stove Area
Kitchen Sink & Dishwasher PeninsulaThe Schrock hickory, shaker-style kitchen cabinets are all mounted and waiting for the granite countertops to be delivered and installed.
Laundry/Kitchen View
Nook DeskJust some final trimming left to finish the kitchen. You don't realize what a 'luxury' a kitchen sink is until you've had to live without one for a while.

It's getting there.................

I'll keep adding more pictures as it progresses. Stay tuned..................

The 2001/2002 Christmas/New Years (?!) letter will (hopefully) be going out when we get a chance.
